How to Style Swimwear with a Skirt After Summer

A dry one-piece swimsuit can become the base of an outfit with a separate skirt, if its cut feels comfortable outside the water. Start with pieces you already own and choose layers for the weather and the occasion.

Check comfort before styling

Try sitting and walking in the swimsuit and skirt together. Look for seams that press at the waist, straps that pull and a neckline or lining that feels uncomfortable over time. If the combination needs constant adjustment, a T-shirt or bodysuit may suit the outfit better.

Choose a skirt and an extra layer

  • Relaxed weekend: a midi skirt, dry one-piece, open shirt and trainers.
  • Coffee or a casual meal: a plain skirt with a printed swimsuit and a cardigan.
  • A cooler day: denim or corduroy with a suitable jacket, tights and footwear.

Swim fabric is not automatically a thermal layer. Add clothing that keeps you comfortable in the actual conditions, and change into dry clothes after swimming.

Use colour and texture

A plain skirt gives a bold print room to stand out. Pick up one colour from the print in a cardigan or accessory, or try burgundy, dark green, brown or cream with pieces already in your wardrobe. A canvas bag and everyday jewellery can be enough to finish the look.

Keep travel and gifting practical

For a trip with a pool, pack swimwear alongside a dry outfit for the rest of the day. If giving swimwear as a present, confirm the recipient’s size, preferred coverage and cut, then check the current price and return conditions.
